Together_Apart

07Jun14

The work that I had completed in March felt really full, as did my life. I noted that my work today is a bit more minimal, as is my life.

It was quiet today and all the things I’ve had swirling around came swirling out onto the canvas.

The title(s) Together_Apart, has several meanings, all relevant to this time and space.

This is an image of the two competed pieces side by side. They are eerily similar, yet were made with clear differences.

I worked outside today, which was a huge change. I felt that the noises of nature might have moved these pieces in a different direction than if I had worked in my regular space.

The layers of these paintings consisted of paste, medium, paint, and charcoal.

I was filthy by the end of this process, which brought a real satisfaction.

The charcoal did some strange and surprising things when interacting with the paint.

I felt that movement and texture took my work in a new direction today.

I’ve been playing with texture during the last few months, but there was something subtle and nuanced here that I hadn’t been able to create before.

It is still an amazement to see my mood form on the canvas as the work progresses.

Let me know in Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr, or here which one you think is #Together and which one is #Apart. I’m dying to know.
